Apiacta online publishes original articles, review articles, and communications in English only.
Manuscripts, that have not been published elsewhere, should first be sent for review to the Editor-in-Chief of Apiacta, Dr. Wyatt Mangum at wmangum@umw.edu.
The article must fulfill the following newly revised guidelines,
which are similar to those of Apidologie. The Editor or the President of the
Standing Commissions could return manuscripts to the authors without any
appraisement, if they do not follow these directions. Note: earlier Apiacta
papers follow older formats, and therefore should not be used as a guide for
submitting current papers.
Manuscript
The manuscript should be sent through e-mail (as an attachment) or mailed on a
CD (diskettes are acceptable although submission by email or a CD is
preferable). The text, tables and figure captions should be in a single Word
file (at least 97 or 98). The figures should be inserted from EPS, JPEG, TIFF,
or PDF formats using standard fonts that match the rest of the manuscript. These
figures must be placed in the article where they are first mentioned.
The manuscript should be no longer than eight printed pages including tables and
figures. The text should be in Arial 12-point with page margins of 2.54 cm (one
inch).
The manuscript should be arranged as follows: title page, short abstract,
keywords, introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion,
acknowledgments, references.
Title page
The title page should include the title, the surnames and forenames of the
authors, the complete address of the institution where the research was carried
out, and a short title of no more than 15 words. In case of several authors the
name of the corresponding author will be identified with an asterisk. Also phone
and fax numbers as well as e-mail addresses are requested. In addition, the
corresponding author must maintain an active e-mail address during the review
period.
Abstract
The abstract should be in a form suitable for abstracting services; that means
less than 500 words. Paragraphs, footnotes, references and undefined
abbreviations should not be used.
Keywords
Submit up to five keywords in lower case. The plural form and capital letters
should be avoided. Key words can come from important terms from the title,
abstract, or the remaining text.
References
The references should be indicated with Arabic numerals enclosed in square
brackets. The brackets are located at the point of citation in the text and are
numbered in order that they first appear in the text. The same numerical order
is followed in the reference list. The titles of the cited journals should be
abbreviated according to the rules of Bioscience Information Service (Biosis) or
of Liste d’abbréviations de mots des titres de publications en série (conforming
to ISO 4, Centre International de ISSN, Paris). Words for which no abbreviation
is given should be written in full.
The following are examples of the proper reference formats.
Article:
[1] Michel R., Control of American Chalkbrood, Apiacta 34 (1999), 64-70.
Book:
[2] Chapman E., Bee Diseases, Ehrenwirth, München, 1997.
Chapter in a book:
[3] Rutges A., Vens R., The Beehive Simulator as an Aid against the Varroa Disease in: The XXXVth International Apicultural Congress, APIMONDIA Publishing House, Bucharest 1999, pp. 229-230.
It is recommended that the author keep one copy of the
manuscript and a set of figures. After the article has been accepted, the
revised version should be e-mailed to the editor using the same format as above.
Review articles
The length of review articles is limited to 12 printed pages. The usual division
into “Materials and Methods/Results/Discussion” may be re-
placed by a more adapted structure.
Any deviation from these points should be discussed with the editorial board.
Reprints and Master Hard Copies
All papers copied from the Apiacta website are considered as reprints. A set of
master hard copies will be kept at the Apimondia office in Rome.
Copyright
As soon as the article is published, the author is considered to have
transferred his rights to the publisher.
